Nominations are open for the Women in Asset Management Awards USA

You can nominate yourself, or an individual or organisation for the Women in Asset Management Awards USA

The Women in Asset Management Awards USA, which acknowledges the work of women in the US Asset Management landscape that are making the sector more ethical and inclusive, will take place on September 9, 2021, and nominations are now open.

The awards aim to celebrate “advocates, role models and allies” across the American Asset Management industry by highlighting “the efforts of individuals, employer initiatives and industry champions.”

By identifying female role models within the industry, the mission is to encourage more young women to pursue a career in the sector and “build a united community of change-makers, and motivate professionals to continue their work across the asset management landscape.”

Each year, the awards expand their categories in line with market changes and developments, where 2021 will see 20 categories, including “ESG Investment Manager, DEI Initiative, Global Equities Leader, Male Ally, and Woman of the Year.”

While the 2020 event was cancelled last year due to COVID-19, the 2019 awards revealed some impressive female winners, including Sheryl Tierney, CFA Senior Research Analyst at Russell Investments, Ying Wang, now Head of Research at Reverence Capital Partners (previously MD, Portfolio Manager at private markets investor Circle Up) and Denise Chisholm Sector Strategist at Fidelity Investments.

This year’s awards are as important as ever, as female representation in fund manager roles, especially in the US, lag behind the global average of 14%. Despite the US being an “advanced financial services economy“, women make up “just 11% of all portfolio managers, which is up from 10% at the end of 2015, but down from 14% 20 years ago.”
