Closing the Chasm: why we need more diversity in financial services

Leanne Mair is doing what she can to encourage more Black women into the sector

In this Women in Leadership video, DiversityQ speaks with Leanne Mair, CEO of Benefactum Consulting and Women in Finance judge, on why companies are failing Black women.

Ahead of her Closing the Chasm conference on October 12, DiversityQ’s editor Cheryl Cole and Mair discuss her experiences in the workplace and why far too often, reports about Black women are heavily based on trauma and not solutions.

She shares her views on the progress being made in the sector to promote racial equity and equality, the measures organisations can take to develop Black talent, and how important intrapreneurship is to career progression.

“Having a Black woman in your company without acknowledging the experience chasm she faces in comparison to white women means you will never achieve the success you want when it comes to attracting, engaging and retaining Black women,” says Mair.

You can hear more from Mair, and about The Closing the Chasm: Changing the Workplace for Black Women report, at the Closing the Chasm Summit on October 12.
