WIT Ireland Summit: using tech to drive workforce equity

The upcoming Women in IT Ireland Summit will explore the use of tech "for the better"

The Women in IT Summit series, the premier events that acknowledge and highlight the role women are playing in diversifying and innovating tech, will have its Irish outing on 7 December 2021.

The free-to-attend Women in IT Summit Ireland promises to “dial up the action” on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEI&A) in tech, a world in which women account for less than 40% of the total global workforce. Other minorities fare even worse, including BAME professionals, workers with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ talent.

Using tech to drive workforce equity

The summit’s theme is “Tech for the Better” and will explore the potential of technology to create impactful social change, including improving equity and inclusion in Ireland’s tech firms.

On the day, there will be a keynote session by Zara Flynn, Managing Director at Accenture Interactive Ireland, about using tech to fight social injustice, the climate crisis, and more.

A later talk will explore ‘Social Mobility in Tech’, including the poor representation rates of tech workers from low-income backgrounds and how to shift workplace culture to foster social inclusion. Expect a first-rate conversation between Sarah Atkinson, Chief Executive Officer, Social Mobility Foundation, and Judy Kelly, Senior Product Security Engineer, RedHat, on this timely and ever-important topic.

The closing conversation of the day is a must-attend session for those looking for the answers to the gaps in their existing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives.

Entitled ‘Accountability – The Solution to Tech’s DEI Jigsaw?’ the discussion between Tracy Bessant, Head of Transformation & Agility, J.P. Morgan, and Dr Ebun Joseph, Director, Institute of Antiracism & Black Studies, will cover what’s wrong with the current DEI initiatives in the corporate world. It will also unpick the importance of education and prioritising accountability without polarising the workforce.
