Raymond James unveils LGBT+ adviser network

The firm has also allocated resources to increase awareness and raise visibility of LGBT+ communities

US-headquartered wealth and advisory firm Raymond James has officially launched its Pride Financial Advisers Network to coincide with the beginning of Pride month.

It was developed to “champion advisers, clients, prospects and allies who identify with, support or serve the LGBTQ+ community”, the company said.

Although it is making its official debut now, Raymond James started introducing the network at adviser conferences in 2019.

“Our firm is about people. Cultivating an inclusive environment where everyone’s perspectives and contributions are welcomed and valued is an extension of Raymond James’ culture,” said Scott Curtis, president of Raymond James’ Private Client Group and executive sponsor of the network.

“The Pride Financial Advisers Network; along with the Black Financial Advisers Network, the Women Financial Advisers Network and our associate-facing networks, has been integral in our mission to further diversity and inclusion within Raymond James and our profession.”

Pandemic not slowing plans

As part of the programme, Raymond James said it has allocated resources for increasing awareness and raise visibility of LGBT+ communities; which includes educational programmes, such as unconscious bias training, for all leaders and associates at the firm.

Additionally, the network created a set of resources to support planners advising LGBT+ clients.

Raymond James hoped to unveil the network in person, but due to global lockdown measures, will do so digitally.

“A global pandemic and resulting travel restrictions may have postponed our inaugural in-person Business of Pride Symposium, but it has certainly not slowed our plans and efforts to help forge the future of finance through equal opportunity, fair representation and valuable service in support of the LGBTQ+ community,” said Marta Shen, financial adviser and co-chair of the network.
