CommScope CEO joins pledge to advance workplace equity

CommScope has joined a CEO-led initiative to build a more inclusive workplace

CommScope, a telecommunications company, has announced that its CEO Chuck Treadway is joining a coalition committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace through CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion, a collective of more than 2,200 CEO signatories.

In signing the pledge, CommScope commits to taking steps to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected, and to help forge an environment where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion. Signatories have already shared over 1,800 actions and exchanged “tangible learning opportunities” and “collaborative conversations” via the initiative’s online hub.

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion cultivates a new kind of ecosystem focused on collaboration and sharing. The actions, available on CEOAction.com, provide concrete examples of open and transparent conversations to cultivate more diverse and inclusive work environments.

“It’s important to provide a space for conversation, engagement and progression around diversity and inclusion,” said Treadway. “Welcoming broader perspectives and embracing new ideas, which arise from an inclusive environment, will make CommScope a better company. I’m proud to be involved in this endeavour and look forward to turning our conversations into action.”

Joining the pledge is just the latest in a proven series of DE&I strategies at CommScope including the CommScope Diversity & Inclusion Business Network (DIBN) which was started in 2020 to foster a culture that embraces employees’ unique perspectives and contributions. In 2021, they partnered with TED@Work to lead a global campaign among its DIBN members to explore DE&I topics.

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is led by a steering committee of CEOs and executives from Accenture, BCG, Deloitte US, The Executive Leadership Council, EY, General Atlantic, KPMG, New York Life, Procter & Gamble and PwC. The coalition represents 85 industries, all 50 US states and more than 21 million employees worldwide.

Having leadership play a central role in workplace DE&I, such as through this pledge, is making a powerful statement about taking accountability on equity strategies from the very top of an organisation, although time will tell how successful this particular initiative will be.
