50/50 Women on Boards recognises Horace Mann for board gender diversity

The financial services firm for educators has women well represented on its board of directors

50/50 Women on Boards, the leading global education and advocacy campaign for gender balance and diversity on corporate boards has commended Horace Mann Educators Corporation as a “3+” company for having three or more women on its board

Horace Mann Educators Corporation, the financial services company dedicated to helping American educators and others serving the community achieve lifelong financial success, counts Marita Zuraitis, Horace Mann President and CEO; Beverley McClure, retired Senior Vice President of Corporate Operations for United Services Automobile Association (USAA) and Elaine Sarsynski, retired President and CEO of MassMutual International, as board members, who represent 27% of the seats on the company’s board of directors.

The 50/50 Women on Boards campaign publishes its 50/50 Women on Boards Gender Diversity Index™ and research reports to track the gender composition of Russell 3000 company boards by board size, state, sector and rating.

“Horace Mann believes that a diverse board is important to best reflect the diversity of the company’s employees, customers and shareholders,” said McClure, chair of the board’s nominating and governance committee.

“We carefully consider the background of each board member to provide a diverse board in terms of experience, skills, age, ethnicity and gender to bring a variety of perspectives to the table.”

“Investors and thought leaders continue to make institutional decisions that reinforce the business benefits of diverse boards,” said Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire, CEO of 50/50 Women on Boards. “We are pleased to recognise Horace Mann for prioritising this business decision that benefits its shareholders, employees, customers and communities.”
