XPO supports Over The Wall’s camps for disabled and sick children

XPO is using its services to deliver equipment to disabled and sick children

A global freight firm is driving positive community impact throughout the UK by using its services to support Over the Wall, a children’s charity.

XPO Logistics has pledged its ongoing support to deliver craft materials and medical supplies to children with serious illnesses and disabilities involved in UK children’s charity Over The Wall’s residential camps.

The UK-based camps, which are free to attend, had been operating remotely during the height of the pandemic, but are now reopening for children and their families.

There, children will get help building their confidence, and meet a network of friends with similar experiences, all while receiving first-class medical care.

XPO’s support for Over the Wall’s camps comes through the donation of trucks and drivers to ensure the delivery of craft materials, games, secure lockers and medical supplies before each camp opens. The first of Over the Wall’s residential camps of 2022 opened in Whitemoor Lakes, Staffordshire on the 11th of April, whilst the online camps will continue throughout the rest of the year to ensure accessibility for all.

Following the opening in Whitemoor Lakes, there’s a residential camp set to open in Staffordshire on the 20th May and another residential camp in Scotland opening on 11th July, one in Berkshire on 22nd July, as well as in Staffordshire on the 3rd August and another in Berkshire on 15th August. There will also be other virtual camps taking place on the 1st of October, 15th of October and 13th of November.

XPO UK’s support of this initiative follows other attempts by the company to support diverse communities and forge social impact. In 2021, they sponsored Birmingham Pride. They also have an Employee Resource Group (ERG) to improve inclusion for LGBT+ groups in the workplace. On the disability front, they have worked on an employment programme run by the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Dan Myers, Managing Director – UK and Ireland, XPO Logistics, said: “Every day, the Over the Wall team makes a genuine difference in the lives of kids with serious illnesses and disabilities. What they do improves lives, and seeing the camps restart will help so many families. As a long-term partner with Over the Wall, we are proud to play a small part in making a positive impact.”

Kevin Mathieson, CEO of Over The Wall UK added: “Over The Wall aims to help children reach beyond the boundaries of their physical challenges and discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities. XPO provides the logistics behind the magic and volunteers for the camp set-up and support for the weekend camps. We thank the XPO team for sharing our vision and values.”
