Construction is as exciting as Formula 1, says Katy Dowding, EVP, Skanska UK

To mark National Inclusion Week, EVP Katy Dowding talks openly about her 30-year career in the construction industry in the latest Skanska UK podcast.

Katy Dowding, Executive Vice President, Skanska UK, has been reflecting on her 30-year career and says construction is as exciting as Formula 1.

Dowding says she happened into the construction industry by chance and it was the best decision she ever made. Construction, she believes, is more inclusive than ever before.

In the latest Skanska UK podcast, Dowding states why she believes people’s ideas about the industry are out of date. As an illustration, she points to a convergence between the construction sector and the computer gaming industry.

She also talks candidly about the challenges she faced early on in her career – when, at times, she would be the only woman working on a construction site.

Dowding says there has been a sea change in the industry since then, and that the construction industry offers a great career whatever a person’s gender, background or beliefs.
